8 The Marion Star Thursday June 10, 1982 College News Joyce Lee Weigler, daughter of Mr. a Mrs. Paul Weigler, 1124 Forest Hill Drive, will graduate magna laude Saturday when commencement exercises are at Bowling Green State University. Weigler, who majored in business with a minor in home economics, received a perfect, 4.0 grade point average winter quarter. In addition, she was selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among in American a and Universities.

Weigler now will work as credit manager for the American Hospitals Supply Corporation in Dallas. Douglas Holbrook, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Holbrook, 4200 Benzler Road, has been elected social vice president of the Accounting Club at Bowling Green State University. He is a senior majoring in accounting.

Ronald E. Margraff, Marion, has been awarded a bachelor's degree at Morehead State University. Scott L. Hoffman, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Hoffman, Morral, has received his juris doctor degree at Syracuse University College of Law, New York. While at Syracuse, Hoffman was survey editor Syracuse Law Review's "Annual Survey of New York Law." graduate of Ohio Northern University, he will be associated in the fall with the New York law firm of Nixon, Hargrave, Devans and Doyle. Jay Lininger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lininger, Marion, has been named to the dean's for the second semester at Fort Wayne Bible College, Ind.

He is a junior majoring in Christian education. Two Marion County recently were recognized for their academic achievements by placement on the Rio Grande College spring quarter dean's list. Honored were: James W. Oliphant, Marion, and Joseph G. Decker, Green Camp.

Scott C. Smart, son of Marilyn Smart, 705 Harvey Drive, and the late John E. Smart, recently received two awards at Otterbein College's Academic Honors Convocation. The senior majoring in graduated cum laude at Furman University, S.C. He majored in economics and business administration.

mathematics and economics was presented the James H. Weaver verses Mathematics Award and Mary Miles Award in Mathematics in ceremonies Westerville conducted Hall on the campus. Jane Rayner, Marion, a senior at St. Joseph's College, has been named executive director of the college's Halleck Student Union Board for the 1982-1983 academic year. The board plays a key role in planning student activities.

Julie Ashworth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Ashworth, 725 King recently was awarded a bachelor's degree during commencement exercises conducted at Denison University. She received the degree in religion, graduating with highest honors.

While at the university, she was a fellow in the Religion Department and assisted faculty members with various duties. Ashworth was a University Scholar junior and senior years and a Presidential Scholar her sophomore and freshman years. She also was tapped for membership in Mortar Board this year and received the E. Clark and Irma Morrow A Award. Ashworth's other memberships included Phi Beta Kappa and Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Timothy J. Lastrapes, son of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Lastrapes, 1245 Forest Hill Drive, has earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Ohio Northern University.

While at ONU, his memberships included American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Engineer's Leadership Institute and the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, of which he was president. He also was a board member of the Engineer's Foundation of Ohio. Lastrapes has accepted a position as design engineer with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company in St. Louis. Yake, daughter, of Mrs.

Mount Gilead, has been named to the honors list at Defiance College. David J. Wensinger, son of Dr. and Mrs. J.A.

Wensinger, 900 Harding Road, has Five area students have been named to the dean's list for the second semester at Muskingum College, New Concord. Recognized for their academic achievements are: Mary A. Bosh, Delaware; Kathleen Whitt, Marion; Jeff A. Seitter, Prospect; Lori B. Jones, Mount Gilead; and Linda Koehler, Sycamore.

Karla J. Nickel, Caledonia, recently was recognized for her academic achievements at the 34th annual Honors Convocation at Eastern Michigan University. Lynn M. Dunbar, 1034 Uhler Road, has received an Honors Scholarship for Capital University. Heidi Mitchell, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Dan H. Mitchell, Prospect, will graduate summa cum laude Friday when commencement exercises are conducted at State University. Mitchell also will graduate with distinction in physics after completing a research project, passing an oral examination and writing a senior thesis. She received an undergraduate research scholarship for the project which involved the development and testing of a gas position sensitive particle detector for use in a quark search experiment.

Her memberships at OSU include Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta. The honor student has received an OSU fellowship for a Ph.D. program in nuclear physics which will begin this summer. Cathy M. Swartz, daughter of Paul Swartz, S.

Main and Donna Lyons, Mansfield, has received a bachelor's degree with distinction at Ohio Northern University. Swartz majored in pharmacy at the college, where her memberships included Student American Pharmaceutical Association, Drug Abuse Team, Alpha Lambda Delta, Rho Chi and the varsity tennis team. A number of area students are to receive degrees when commencement exercise conducted Saturday at Bowling Green State University. Scheduled to graduate with honors are: Melinda Shifley, Bucyrus, cum laude; Cindy Arn, Kenton, cum laude; Melissa Basore, Marion; cum laude; and Karen Forry, Morral, cum laude.
