6 The Marion Star, Saturday, June 29, 1985 Headed by Yazel Altrusa installs new officers Officers for the 1985-86 club year were installed when Altrusa Club of Marion, Ohio Inc. met for dinner at Women's Club Home Tuesday night, June 25. Newly elected as president is Sue Yazel. Currently serving her second term as Clerk of Courts for Marion County, she is a Marion native and a graduate of Harding High School. She has one daughter, Angie.

Other officers installed with Yazel, are Lois Woodburn and Linda Wygle, vice presidents; Cara Sue Witte, recording secretary; Jo Greenwood, corresponding secretary; Mary K. Stone, treasurer; Norma Castanien and Maureen Welch, directors. Immediate past president Mary Ann Jenkins thanked her officers, committee chairmen and the membership for Cliftons marry at Trinity Gina Louise Mathews and S. Craig Clifton exchanged nuptial vows in Trinity Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. May 18.

The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. William J. Smart before an altar decorated with arrangements of white gladioli, pink carnations and white snowdrift. The organist was Ronald Turner, with Daniel and Terry Dodds as vocalists, accompanied by Christipher and Joshua Dodds, nephews of the bride. Parents of the bride are Mr.

Mrs. John Fetter, Marion, and Donald Mathews, Columbus. The groom is the son of Duncan and Dorothy Clifton, Ontario, Canada. The bride was escorted by her father. Her gown featured a Queen Ann neckline and sheer leg 'mutton sleeves, edged with Chantilly lace ruffles.

The bodice of Schiffli embroidered lace was accented with pearl sequins and seed pearls. The natural waistline flowed into a semi-cathedral train enhanced with Chantilly lace ruffles. The front of the skirt featured a Schiffli lace motif. The Schiffli lace headpiece, adorned with pearl sequins, secured her veil of illusion. She carried a Colonial bouquet fashioned from white miniature carnations, roses and baby's breath, and pink and silver streamers.

Patricia I. Massie served her sister as matron of honor, assisted by bridesmaids Peggy Hoffman, Kelly Armstrong and Jenny Merriman, all friends of the bride. Junior bridesmaid was Sarah Dodds. The attendants were attired in ice pink chiffon over taffeta gowns. Dear Reader: Is that garbage still kicking around? It has been almost a year since I printed a letter similar to yours and responded in strong language, hoping to put that rumor to rest. Gamble is in no way the Church of Satan or any other religious organization. Where this wild story originated and why it persists is a mystery to me. Dear Ann Landers: This letter is in response to "'Finito in Buffalo." I know where you're coming from. too, was a battered woman.

For two years 1 put up with my husband's beatings because I thought (a) he's drunk and doesn't know what he's doing; (b) he really loves me and one day he will come to his senses and stop; (c) I can't face the humiliation of letting anyone know I am treated so rotten. The officers were installed by the Altrusa Information Committee Chairman Maureen Welch, assisted by Della Mautz and Carolyn Hittenrauch. Delegates who will attend the Altrusa International convention in Boston, beginning July 19, are Yazel, Jenkins, Welch and Castanien. The next business meeting of the club is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 9, at the club home.

The groom's attire was a Bill Blass pearl grey cutaway tuxedo with double-brested vest and white wing tip shirt. The groomsmen had pearl grey tailcoats with -breasted vests and white wing tip shirts. Marion concert band to perform This Sunday night at 7, the Marion Concert Band will present its third performance in three weeks.

The band will travel to Prospect for a program in the park there in conjunction with an ice cream social. Sunday's program has a wide variety of moods and styles, spokesmen said. Several of the marches selected are "Stars and Bars" by Robert Jager, "Hosts of Freedom" by Karl King, and "The Thunderer" by Sousa. A march that is new this year, "The Suncoasters," also will be played. The Big Band era will be represented by two numbers, including a medley called "Big Band Classics" and the Sunday other a medley of Cole Porter songs which include "Night and Day" and "'Don't Fence Me From the "Grand Canyon Suite," the band will perform "On the Trail." "Fantasy on American Sailing Songs" represents one of the many excellent pieces for band by Clare Grundman.

A heavy selection on the program is "The Great Gate of Kiev" from "Pictures at an Exhibition." Band representatives say another block-buster arrangement on the program is called "Hooray for Hollywood" and includes 11 excerpts from motion pictures, past and present. HENRY J. FIELDS Post Commander Fields again heads post Installation of officers of GI Post 584, American Legion, was conducted at the post home Tuesday by John Ed Bell, first vice commander of the legion's Sixth District. Installed for the 3rd time as post commander was Henry J. Fields, 995 Robinson retiree from the former Tecumseh Products Co.

and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Fields, a native of Bloomington, came to Marion in 1937. He is married, with five grown children and a member of Central Christian Church, where he is serving as a Deacon and is a former Elder. He also was treasurer of the Fair Park Swimming Pool Board and is managing Post 584's baseball team for the 12th year. Other post officers installed are Donald R.

Hoch and Richard D. Flavell, vice commanders; Harold L. Bradley, adjutant; George nance officer; George W. Almendinger, sergeant at arms and post service officer; W. Forrest Roush, historian and Gift for Yanks chairman; Dennis R.

Belk, child and youth chairman; and G. E. "Tiny" Moore, public relations. Post 584 recently was honored at the 6th District Convention in Richwood for its outstanding growth in post membership, having attained an alltime high of 254 members, excluding its ladies auxiliary. The post also was presented a plaque for having the highest percentage per member in contributions to the Gifts for Yanks perennial program, used for Christmas gifts for hospitalized and incapacitated veterans.

Meeker Alumni meet at Ridgedale junior high The Meeker Alumni Banquet was held last Saturday at Ridgedale Junior High School, with 183 members and guests in attendance. A social hour was followed by a buffet dinner served by Ruth Smith and Mary Brown. Ralph Brown asked the blessing. The business meeting was conducted by the president, Caroline Rieser. Other persons serving on the preparations committee were Paul Smith, Winona Fogle, June Snare, Dorothy Sims, Edith Sharp, Marilyn Collins and Darlene Parsell.

"The Way We Were" was the banquet theme. Wreaths, with a painting of Meeker School were given as door prizes. They were made and painted by Carol Schaber. Composites of classes of 1924 through 1957 were on display, along with other memorabilia. The oldest member present was Elgin '75 adds The Elgin Class of 1975 is planning a picnic July 7 at the Prospect Park in conjunction with 10th reunion activities scheduled the night before.

A quartet consisting of Mabel Rhoads, Ethel Seiter, George Wilson and Merlyn Crisler, accompanied by Helen Cookston, also entertained. The conclusion of the event was spent with round and dancing with music by The Front Majority.
