The incident remains under investi Parole board By The Associated Press DAYTON The Ohio Criminal Sentencing Commission is expected to recommend to the state Legislature changes that would substantially reduce the power of the Ohio Parole Board, a newspaper reported Sunday. The Dayton Daily News reported that under the commission's recommendation, "parole as we know it would not exist," said David Diroll, the commission's executive director.

The commission will ask lawmakers to let judges, instead of the parole board, determine the length of sentences, the newspaper reported. The board would decide only the terms of the release. Perez fired By The Associated Press CINCINNATI The Cincinnati Reds today fired manager Tony Perez, just 44 games into his first season, nam ing former New York Mets manager Davey Johnson to replace him. Johnson, 50, was one of the candidates who was interviewed forthe Reds managing job last fall. He has been a consultant for the Reds since PEREZ December. He had been out of the majors since the Mets fired him in 1990. urley Woods, 25 of Mount Vemon, was driving west on U.S. 36 at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, at speeds "too fast to negotiate a right curve," according to the Mount Gilead post of the state highway patrol. He lost control of his pickup truck, skidded off the right side of the road, overcompensated and went off the left side of the road, where the pick-up overturned in a ditch. His three passengers were ejected from the vehicle.

He was born July 16, 1945, in Marion the son of the late Harry and Mabel Marie Martin Baker. Mr. Baker, a 20-year resident of Delaware, was a self-employed musician, a member of the Salvation Army and a volunteer for the Salvation Army.

Surviving are his wife, Roberta; a daughter, Katherine Baker, Delaware; two sons, James and Timothy Baker, Delaware; five sisters, Mildred Lucas, Morral, and Patricia Caudill, Mary Terry, Emma Zornes and Nancy Smith, Marion. Simmons, California; an adopted daughter, Lori C. Price, San Diego, Marion; three sisters, Clara L. Rizor, Prospect, Florence Elliot, Marion, Pauline Dole, Indiana; seven grandchildren; lOgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son, two sisters and three brothers are deceased. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m.

Gov. George Voinovich has tried to push for such alternative sentences. The parole board sets conditions for an inmate's release. But parole officers are supposed to oversee parolees to make sure they receive treatment, get jobs and stay out of trouble. The large caseload carried by parole officers limits their effectiveness, the Daily News reported.

Bom July 1, 1928, in Marion, he was the son of the late L.H. "Burt" and Hazel L. (Crockett) Timmons. He married the former Minnie Rinnert on July 23, 1950, in Marion. She survives.

Rev. Timmons pastored for 1 7 years at the former Shiloh Baptist Church and Salem Church of God. He also did evangelism work. He was a lifelong Marion area resident and retired in 1983 from Marion Power Shovel maintenance department after 34 years of service. He was a member of Salem Community Church and the Green Camp Lions Club and served as marshall of Green Camp for 10 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, James W. Timmons, Marion; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Deborah) Clark, Columbus; two brothers, Clarence D.

Timmons, LaRue, and Warren L. Timmons, Cardington; two sisters, Betty L. Lyons, Marion, and Mrs. Albert (LuAnn) Slone, LaRue; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

The funeral is 1 1 a.m. Wednesday at Home Missionary Holiness Church with the Rev. Robert Smeltzer and the.Rev. Earl Carol! officiating. Burial is in Green Camp Cemetery.
