I RAIL- tliarUjr BurnlwD, of Gallon, Beneath the Wheal of HI Tram and Killed Alraoat One of the moot shocking accidents that could banpt-n to a human occur red near the Main street crosxiiig of the N.

h. K. and railway at about 11 :30 this morning. The victim was Charley JtiirniHoii' conductor of Erie local freight Hiirnixoii's train had been delayed by work in the yards in thin city and was pulling out considerably belated at the time of the accident. The con doctor was passing over his train to the engine, and hen near the west end of the old lluber shops he slipped and foil beneath the wheels.

This it supposed to have occured when the tin fortunate man bad passed over about half the train. No sooner had he gone down when the horrible mutilation began, as evidenced by blood, pieces of flesh and bones that marked the track over which ho was araggen ana ronea. Not until the caboose had panned over him was the man released and then the sight presented was enough to try the nerves of the stoutest. The body was carried to the west crossing of Main street and there lay in a heap of mutilated flesh and broken hones. 1 he entire distance passed over was prol- ably 50 or 75 yards, and along the route were evidences of the horrible accident, pools of blood stood between rails, where the body had stopped for a moment to be picked up and carried by the machinery.

No one is known to have seen lkirni-son fall, but it is thought that he was climbing from a coal car to a box car, there being marks of mud from his boots on the ladder. A brakeman was behind him but a few cars but did not see turn fall, and his fate was not known until the horrible truth wax revealed when the train had passed over the body. Soon a crowd was present at the scene and the body was carried into the storage room of the C. Abel liugtjy Co. across the The man still breathed when removed to tbe ware- room, but lilo was soon extinct.

Uoro- ner McMurray was called and made an examination of the remains, which re vealed a scene Biillicieiit to cause strong men to turn away horrified. The remains were soon after given into the charge of the undertaker to be pre pared for burial, and were then given to the care of the Brotherhood of Con ductors. lJurninon was a man of perhaps 37 years, lie was married and the fattier of four children, who reside at Gallon Deceased was an old railroader, and had been employed on different roads, but for the last ten years had been in the employ of the Erie. THE LOUISVILLE HORROR. Up to the hour of going to press the Stab has been utterly unable to secure any satisfactory dmpatches concerning the destructive and death dealing cyclone at Louisville and other points in Kentucky, so that there is little to offer concerning the terrible affair beyond what our news columns elsewhere contain.

At 2 o'clock an American Press bulletin says: No communication whatever with the fated city of Louisville, at noon. The last special was received at 5 o'clock a.m., and it stated that at least 600 were killed, 2000 injured, and 1600 homes wrecked. The estimated damage exceeds 3,000,000. Over one hundred bodies have been recovered so far. The loss at Metropolis, In Illnois, Is believed to be beyond 100 persons, and damage beyond computation at this time.

A still later dispatch from Cincinnati says that the report of trainmen, arri v. Ingat Cincinnati over the Louisville and Nashville and other railways say that the extent and horrors of last night's disaster are only but partially known. Kentucky has suffered most. No town of any importance in the state can be reached by telegraph. At nearly all stations on the way from Louisville to Cincinnati rumors of death and destruction were heard.

All trains are about 10 hours late. Jeffcrsonville, has suffered exceedingly. A reliable estimate of last night' death dealing storm is quite out of the question, but conservative persons in possession of the best information possible at noon today, believe the loss of life to exceed 2000. Only the repair ed telegraph wires can bring early news, and that may be as late at Saturday a.m. STILL LATKK NEWS.

A dispatch received at this oflice from Cincinnati at 3 :15 p.m., states that four wires now reach Louisville. The latest estimate of the killed for Louisville alone is 800. Under the hall where lodges and dancing school were in progress, the loss of life was terrible in the extreme. Broken gas pipes shut off the lights and many were suffocated. Ten women, locked in each others arms were drawn out of the ruins, but one of them alive.

The work of rescue is exceedingly slow, but everything possible Is being done. In a 'Washington interview Judge Seney says the Democrats are likely to be disappointed in the closer districts this fall districts where the estimated Democratic majority is not over "1500. The Judge says that sized majority is no cinch in Ohio. Inasmuch as he is a possible candidate in this, the new eight district, his remarks smack of some local interest. The lower house of Congress has already passed the bill that will add another bright star to the firmament of the United States.

'Wyoming is the new daughter of Uncle Sam. The bill passed on a party vote, the Democrats opposing because (largely) of the State's tendency to be Republican. REPUBLICAN CONVENTIONS.
